Some of you have been asking for an update on the lawsuit in which a local public school teacher, who is paid by our taxes, is suing a few of us for defamation. You can read details about the lawsuit here, but the short version is she did a podcast and we wrote about it quoting her words, so she decided to sue.
While things seem quiet on the outside, it has been busy in the legal world behind the scenes. Both sides are in the discovery phase, which is interesting as lawyers try to find a needle in a haystack. While things become more intriguing, it is not without a cost. There are lots of meetings, conferences between attorneys, phone calls, emails, research, motions, etc. Everyone of these cost money.
This is a completely different industry than what most of us are used to. Imagine if all of us could charge our clients for every email we respond to or phone call we return. This is not a criticism of any of the attorneys involved, this is simply the way the legal world works. This is what we signed up for so we live with it. For this reason, I do not communicate with my attorney any more than necessary and he reciprocates in the same way.
However, it still costs thousands of dollars each month to trudge through this process. This legal kerfuffle is bearable because of the support and prayers of all of you. Easter was a good reminder that nothing we go through in this life is near the suffering He bore for each one of us!
