For some reason, the curriculum director at Flagstaff Union School District (FUSD) decided to work with Coconino County to teach the students “sexual health”. Don’t any of the science or anatomy and physiology teachers have the knowledge or resources to teach the reproductive system? Gone are the days when anatomy was the focus in sex ed. Instead, change the name to “sexual health” and then all kinds of subjects other than anatomy and physiology can be rolled into the curriculum.
An employee of Coconino County did not hesitate to assist Lance Huffman of FUSD. Sydney Tolchinsky was previously employed by Planned Parenthood. We took a look at her Facebook page and like many adults who like to talk about sex with kids who don’t belong to them, she’s not shy about her interests.
On its website, Coconino County brags about advising minors about birth control, sex, and pregnancy “options” (which means abortion may be discussed), all without parental notification. In case Coconino County changes its website, here are some screenshots.
There’s that 988 Suicide hotline again, which connects children to strangers. Also, take a look at the second screenshot, the link to Bedsider. Every parental rights bill that the Arizona Legislature has passed is completely undone with this Coconino County website and its partners. Bedsider could use a warning label like movies have. Guess what– your kids have access with just a few clicks. Again, a few screenshots are below in case Besider tries to hide its content.
But wait, there’s more. Want an abortion? Coconino County has links to all your needs. Bedsider is there to help.
Really? If abortion is so safe, why is Coconino County sneaking around parents? Does “safest medical procedure” describe the long-term emotional consequences women and men face throughout their lives after their abortions? And what about the women who are bleeding out alone at home after taking the magic abortion pill?
Flagstaff Unified is likely well aware of state statutes surrounding sex education and parental rights. What better way to walk a tightrope around these than by inviting an outside entity into the classroom and pushing through the approval process? Did parents really get to review all the content in Positive Prevention Plus, FUSD’s new curriculum borrowed from California? Here is a text between Lance Huffman and Sydney Tolchinsky.
They also made sure they had individuals supporting Positive Prevention Plus during public comment. Were the district and county worried they didn’t have enough support from the community?
Oh, darn. One board member didn’t rubber stamp the agenda.
So what is in Positive Prevention Plus? According to what was posted on Flagstaff Unified’s Board Docs, it should be benign. Most parents either don’t know the process or don’t have time to review a curriculum. And sadly, many don’t know what to look for until their children reveal what is being taught in the classroom and then it is too late.
Why is this a sexual health program if teen pregnancy is the main attraction? Because there is so much more in the curriculum than what FUSD is telling parents. While the district wrote the parent/guardian information above, look at this preview for the governing board vote:
Equity and Inclusion are buzzwords which are used as an umbrella for gender chatter. So is the curriculum for pregnancy prevention or gender ideology? Some screenshots from Positive Prevention Plus’s gender lessons are below.
What does teaching kids something other than male/female, XX or XY chromosomes have to with pregnancy? Why are multiple genders being discussed with a stranger while parents aren’t present?
Even Flagstaff’s superintendent noticed the reference to gender. Had he not would Mr. Huffman and Ms. Tolchinsky have addressed it?
In case Besider doesn’t provide enough adult content, here is birth control overview in Positive Prevention Plus.
Look at this, now it is social and sexual health. FUSD can’t make up its mind what is being taught:
The Arizona Department of Health Services and Arizona Department of Education are vetting sexxxx curriculum and something like Positive Prevention Plus is getting through? Arizona Legislature, we appreciate all you have done to protect children while in the classroom, but it is not working. The State of Arizona is running circles around you and all parents who have concerns about government schools.
Below is another screenshot of Flagstaff’s new curriculum. Who qualifies as a “trusted adult”? Why are parents not included? The curriculum implies health providers take precedence over parents. Is that what the employees at Coconino County Health believe?
One of the sections of Positive Prevention Plus refers to spirituality and religion. However, on the same page the curriculum states children have a right to access sexual and reproductive health services. Who determined that? Why are curriculum supporters leaving parents out? Some parents, for religious reasons, don’t want their children using birth control. Some parents, for medical reasons, don’t want their daughters putting hormones in their bodies.
What does the executive assistant mean by “massage wording”? Was there something parents would be uncomfortable with?
What is occurring in Flagstaff and Coconino County is very serious. Thankfully, there are many educational options in Arizona. If you are a family who wants to support the public schools in Flagstaff by enrolling your kids, keep your eyes and ears open. As long as this type of curriculum is allowed in the classroom and taught by a stranger behind parents’ backs, the calls for cameras in the classroom will not end.
